Barrier island sewer system update (Dec. 10, 2012) Print

Toms River Municipal Utilities Authority (TRMUA) activities regarding barrier island sewer system

1. Pump Stations-All 3 TRMUA pump stations (on the island) are operational and pumping.  All OCUA pump Stations on the island are operational and pumping.

2. Sewer Mains-The TRMUA continues to assess sanitary sewer mains on the island and has thus far determined that the majority of the sanitary sewer system is intact.

3. Laterals (Utilities going from the street to the house) TRMUA personnel are assessing laterals at all homes on the island.  If the lateral is compromised, TRMUA personnel may cut and cap it in an effort to preserve the remainder of the system.  It is important to note that the TRMUA owns the lateral from the curb or the edge of the property (if no curb exists) to the main.  Cut and caps are typically performed at the curb clean out (located near the curb or at the edge of the homes property).  Any home that is cut and capped will receive a notice.

4. Notification to ratepayers- All TRMUA ratepayers will receive a notice concerning the Toms River MUA sanitary sewer system and Hurricane Sandy with their 2013 sewer bills.
