Advisory Base Flood Elevation Maps – Ortley Beach Update (2/15/13) PDF Print E-mail

The Toms River Township Council adopted a Resolution on Monday February 12, 2013, supporting United States Senators Lautenberg and Menendez in their effort to give homeowners the right to appeal their flood designation under the Advisory Base Flood Elevation Maps (ABFE) instead of waiting until the revised maps are issued in August of 2013.

Mayor Tom Kelaher has announced an updated status for Ortley Beach.   Kelaher said, "Gov. Chris Christie has approved the re-population for most of Ortley Beach beginning on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 8:00 am.

The Toms River Police Department is reminding everyone that Ortley Beach is still under a State of Emergency. Trespassers and violators will be cited and/or fined.

 

 

 

 
Plan to Re-populate Ortley Beach PDF Print E-mail

Mayor Thomas F. Kelaher has an updated plan for the re-population of Ortley Beach.

The Mayor is pleased to announce that he and the Toms River Council have been steadfastly working with the utility companies to get most Ortley Beach residents back in their homes as early as February 4, 2013.

Please refer to the schedule below for island access for Jan.11-31.  We will keep updating our website as soon as a new schedule is given.  Barrier Island opens to residents from 8:00 am -4:00 pm

After Feb 3. there is no closure schedule due to repopulation which is set to occur on Feb. 4.

Jan-29 & Feb 1 East Zone Closed for Collections. Middle and West Zones open to homeowners and contractors.

Jan-30 & Feb 2 Middle Zone Closed for Collections. East and West Zones open to homeowners and contractors.

Jan - 31 & Feb 3 West Zone Closed for Collections. East and Middle Zones open to homeowners and contractors.

a.The Mayor and Township Council are committed to the goal of returning Ortley Beach residents back in their homes as soon as possible, once conditions are certified to be safe for residents to return to their homes on a permanent basis. Unfortunately, the Ortley Beach area sustained more significant damage than the surrounding areas, and the re-population process is further complicated by the widespread level of damage. Due to the damage caused by Superstorm Sandy, the State of Emergency declared by Governor Christie is still in effect for Ortley Beach.
