Developmental Disabilities Committee
About
The Toms River Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Developmental Disabilities advocates for the education, servicing, medical equality, employment and integration of people with developmental disabilities. The committee serves as a voice to Mayor Hill and the Township Council Members on actions that will improve the lives of Toms River residents. The committee creates an events flyer every month advertising events going on in the area and provide sensory friendly quiet areas at select events around town.

Sensory Activation Trailer
On July 12, 2022, the Toms River Mayor's Advisory Committee on Developmental Disabilities cut the ribbon for their new mobile Sensory Activation Trailer.
A sensory activation vehicle is a space which is designed to help an individual with a sensory need to regulate the brain’s negative reaction to external stimuli. The vehicle provides a low-stress, controlled environment to work through the stressor and allow the person to re-enter the preferred activity with a new confidence. This type of vehicle can benefit those with Autism, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, PTSD and more.
Ocean County Special Needs Registry
The Ocean County Special Needs Registry is a voluntary service open to all citizens with disabilities who reside, attend school or are employed in Ocean County. The registry was created to help police officers and other emergency service personnel to better assist residents with special needs in the event of an emergency by providing those first responders with vital information regarding a registrant’s disability, emergency contact information, a physical description and current photograph of the registrant.
NOTE: All Individuals who are of legal age (where there is no power of attorney or guardianship) can only register themselves.
