Toms River Township takes the safety of our residents, partners, owners, and guests very seriously and we are continuing to take direction from the CDC, World Health Organization, and local health department agencies of affected areas at this time. 

Short Term Seasonal Rentals

  • NJ Administrative Order 2020-8. Hotels, Motels, Guest Homes
  • CDC continues to recommend that people protect themselves by washing their hands often, avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Avoid contact with people who are sick.

For Property Owners

  • Important to do deep cleaning in between renters.
  • Suggestions of check ins and outs without interfacing. Use a lockbox.
  • Focus on Kitchen, bathrooms and high traffic area surface touch areas such as doorknobs, refrigerator handles, countertops, and chairs.
  • Evidence suggests COVID-19 can be transmitted less easily from soft surfaces than hard surfaces like handles and elevator buttons.
  • Use disposable cloths or paper towels or wash reusable towels in 140F after use.
  • Disinfect kitchen brushes and sponges with detergent and warm water.
  • Disinfect any outdoor furniture and leisure equipment such as bicycles.

Property Management & Maintenance

Short term, property owners and property managers of commercial and retail properties should be monitoring the websites of their local health departments and the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and taking the steps that they can to support applicable directives and maintain a clean and safe environment for their tenants and their patrons. Most, if not all, communities are currently being advised to avoid travel and to practice some level of “social distancing” designed to curb the spread of the virus. These generally include increasing handwashing and use of hand sanitizer and regularly cleaning high-touch surfaces as well as maintaining a six-foot distance from other individuals in public places.

Owners and managers should understand and comply with all suggested and mandated guidelines for controlling the transmission of the virus, including (to the extent possible and applicable):

  • Providing hand sanitizer stations in high traffic areas
  • Routinely cleaning surfaces and increasing janitorial services provided to tenants.
  • Regularly communicating with tenants regarding building policies and steps being taken to address the outbreak and state and local directives and mandates
  • Following all CDC recommendations and posting materials in multiple languages to educate tenants and their employees and visitors about proper hygiene and all suggested and mandated “social distancing” measures

                                                             For Renters

  • Frequently sanitize all touch surfaces, such as tables, doorknobs, countertops, phones, toilets, faucets, and keyboards.
  • Do not rent if you or someone in your party is sick.
  • Do not gather in large groups. No contact sports.

In compliance with state regulations, capacity will be monitored regularly to determine if it is necessary to reduce or restrict access to specific areas, or the entirety of the beach. If conditions and capacity at the beachfront become unsafe, township officials and/or private beach associations may modify the plan at any time. This may include limiting the amount of daily badges sold on busy days, and possibly limiting access of seasonal and weekly badge holders if the beach is at unsafe capacity.

Fishing is permitted only after bathing hours and in designated areas.

Surfing is only permitted on the North end of the beach during guarding hours. After hours, you can surf anywhere.
