1. How/when do I buy a beach badge and what beaches does it cover?

The Toms River Township beach badge is for Ortley Beach on the ocean and Shelter Cove on the bay. The badge does not include beaches in other towns such as Seaside Heights or Lavalette.

Badges can be purchased at a discount rate beginning on April 3rd and ending the Monday of Memorial Day weekend each year. Badges can be purchased at the Recreation Administration Office, the Toms River Senior Center on Garfield Avenue, and at the beach during the season.

3. How can I reserve a Kayak permit for 2023?

𝗞𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗸 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗴𝗼 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴  𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟯

Permits to store kayaks or canoes on racks at Money Island beach, Huddy Park, and Ortley Beach by the Docksider marina go on sale on Monday, April 3 at 7pm.

Permits may be purchased online ONLY at http://register.communitypass.net/tomsriver 

The permits cost $35 and come with a decal to be placed on the watercraft for the season, which ends on October 31.

Registrants that are able to reserve up to 2 of these limited spaces, will subsequently be sent a link to make final payment and instructions to pick up their decal.

4. Do senior citizens get a discount on beach badge prices?

Toms River Township residents ages 62 and over may obtain a Senior Identification/Beach pass by presenting proof of age. The photo identification provides lifetime access to Township beaches; a one time processing fee of $15 is required.

5. Does the Recreation Department coordinate organized sports leagues such as soccer or softball?

No. All organized sports leagues are coordinated by independent organizations in Toms River. The Recreation Department keeps a list of contact names and phone numbers as a courtesy for the public. 6. When are Recreation Department program brochures distributed?

The Summer brochure is available in May, the Fall/Winter brochure in September and the Spring brochure in March.

7. How do I reserve space in a township park or recreational site?

All registrations and permits must be obtained in person at the Department of Recreation Office on a first-come, first-served basis. Programs are available to Toms River residents and students who attend the Toms River Regional School District.

8. How much is a picnic permit?

Permit fees are based upon residency and the number of people attending the picnic. Please call the office at 732-341-1000, ext. 8415 for prices.

9. Can I book Castle Park for a party or a picnic?

No. Castle Park is a public park with no designated group picnic permit areas.

10. What parks can I obtain a permit for a party or group picnic?

Resident can obtain a picnic permit for Winding River Park (located in the northeast section of town along Oak Ridge Parkway and on the southeast section of town along Route 37 West) or for Riverwood Park (Riverwood Drive).

11. What kind of payment does the township accept for program registrations, beach badges or permits?

The only form of payment the township accepts for beach badges or permits is cash or check.

12. Can weddings be performed on the township beach?

We recommend any individual interested in a wedding on the beach consider the time of year. The beaches are open to the public and weddings cannot be reserved by permit or license.

13. Where is crabbing allowed and is a permit required?

The Recreation Department suggests residents contact the Borough of Island Heights at 732-270-6415 regarding all crabbing regulations.

14. Do the beaches have showers?

Ortley Beach and Sheltver Cove beaches have showers and can be used free-of-charge.

15. Can I purchase a beach badge via mail?

Unfortunately, no. As there is no way to guarantee delivery of the badge, they must be purchased in person.

17. How do I get to the office?

Take Fischer Boulevard to the traffic light at Yellowbank Road Head east on Yellowbank Road 3 blocks. Turn left onto Warren Point Road. The office is about 1/8th of a mile down the road on the right-hand side. Access online directions to our office.
