Do I need a Tree Removal Permit to take down a dead tree in my yard?: A Tree Removal Permit is required prior to the removal of any standing tree, alive or dead. However, the $75 permit fee is waived for the removal of a dead tree. If clear photographic evidence that a standing tree is dead is not submitted, the Township Planner may require a letter from a Licensed Tree Expert or Certified Arborist be submitted that confirms that the tree is dead.

1. When is a Tree Removal Permit required?: A Tree Removal Permit is required prior to the complete removal of any tree with a trunk diameter of more than four inches (Diameter at Breast Height or "dbh") on a lot containing a one-family or two-family dwelling.

2. Do I need a Tree Removal Permit before I build my deck or install my pool?: A Tree Removal Permit is not required for trees removed in connection with the construction of a pool, fence, deck, patio, shed or other similar accessory structures used in connection with a single-family residential dwelling and for which all necessary construction permits have been duly issued by the Township.

Can I remove it?: A Tree Removal Permit is required for the removal of any street tree and a Street Opening Permit is required for replacement of the sidewalk. JCP&L MUST be notified prior to the removal of a street tree in contact with overhead electrical lines.

6. There are dead or dying trees on Township property or in the street ROW near my house. Who do I call?: Call the Office of Public Lands in the Division of Parks, Buildings and Grounds at 732-341-1000 x8414 or the Division Director, Craig Ambrosio at x8417. Like a public sidewalk along your property, the maintenance or removal of a street tree is the responsibility of the property owner. A tree removal permit is required prior to the removal of any tree(s), including any street tree in the public ROW.
